Specks or Speckled Trout fishing in Cocoa
Beach Florida
Often called spotted sea trout, many opt to call them specks
or speckled sea trout in the south.
Speckled seatrout are a favorite catch for many southern
anglers and Cocoa Beach Florida is world famous for it's giant
speckled trout or "gators" as many people call them.
Specs are a sub-species of the northern weakfish. Northeastern
anglers catch them schooling and often in deep holes or off
the beaches. Florida fishermen catch speckled trout in the
flats, and the really big ones in less than two feet of water.
"It's a blast catching the on topwater plugs or live
bait. Specs blast the baits out of the water sometimes several
times before hooking up! We've been catching 30 inch specs
more often this year than ever before and it looks to be getting
better every year. Hopefully we'll regain our status as the
best spec fishing in the world." explains Captain Richard
